Kyoto Protocol’s survival in danger

CANCUN (Mexico), Dec 7: In the second week of the UN climate negotiations here, the biggest challenge for developing countries is to ensure the survival of the Kyoto Protocol. It is currently in danger of being pushed aside by developed countries to make way for a voluntary pledge-based system. Last week, rich countries attempted to lay the groundwork for the eventual dissolution of the Kyoto Protocol.

Climate change talks move ahead in Cancun

CANCUN (Mexico): Delegates attending the UN Climate Change Conference 2010, currently being held in Cancun, Mexico, describe the atmosphere as one of cautious optimism. Expectations have been lowered since the disappointing failure of the Copenhagen Summit held a year ago in 2009 when world leaders could not agree on a legally binding treaty to curb carbon emissions causing global warming.

Pakistan worst victim of climate change

ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: Speakers at an environment seminar here on Wednesday said Pakistan was amongst the lowest emitters but the worst victim of climate change.
The ‘Pre-Cancun climate change conference’ was organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute.
