Depts’ working in isolation blamed for drain toxicity

Karachi: April 20: A preliminary report largely based on the observation of a recently turned toxic drain feeding the Keenjhar Lake has blamed lack of coordination among government departments for its longstanding problems, including pollution mainly caused by the release of untreated industrial waste.

Call for study on post-flood Manchhar

KARACHI, Nov 11: Experts speaking at a workshop on Thursday highlighted the need for conducting a fresh study on Manchhar — the freshwater lake that has been ruined by agricultural effluents and sewage over the years — before making any decision for installation of treatment plants to help restore the lake to its original form.

Manchhar’s water quality harmed by drain’s inflow

 HYDERABAD, June 15: A recent study conducted on Manchhar Lake by Hyderabad’s (then) district government’s water technologist Dr Ahsan Siddiqui has stated that a healthy change was brought about in the lake’s water quality but since inflows of Main Nara Valley (MNV) drain into the lake continue, the situation is back to square one again as far as lake’s contamination is concerned.

Evacuation deadline extended as water level rises in Attabad Lake

 GILGIT BALTISTAN: The deadline for the evacuation of residents of low-lying areas to safer places has been extended for one more day. The deadline had been issued due to possible flooding, which will suppose to be end today.
