Roads, flyovers playing havoc with environment, court told

PESHAWAR, Aug 2: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday put on notice the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and provincial ministry of environment in a writ petition challenging some mega projects in the provincial capital terming it environmentally unsafe.

Call for study on post-flood Manchhar

KARACHI, Nov 11: Experts speaking at a workshop on Thursday highlighted the need for conducting a fresh study on Manchhar — the freshwater lake that has been ruined by agricultural effluents and sewage over the years — before making any decision for installation of treatment plants to help restore the lake to its original form.

Call to create awareness of water-borne diseases

ISLAMABAD Aug 9: Experts at a seminar here on Monday asked the authorities concerned to launch an effective awareness campaign to avoid spread of water-borne diseases in the flood-hit areas. They also suggested that the introduction of cost-effective water purification systems was urgently needed in the country.
The seminar on ‘Safe drinking water through solar water disinfection (SODIS)’ was organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).
